Drift Boat Guides
Christopher Scalley grew up in Roswell,Georgia, doing the things he loves: hunting, fishing and trapping the Chattahoochee River and surrounding watersheds. Comparing and contrasting other fisheries throughout the world, Chris has fly fished New Zealand's famed freestone waters of the South Island, Ireland's productive loch angling, the Gmundner Traun tailwater of Austria, the Rocky Mountain Western U.S. to more domestic waters like the limestone rich spring creeks of the State of Pennsylvania.

Although these distant waters are well worth the journey, Chris and many of his clients have always felt the 'Hooch compares favorably with these "destination rivers" both from an angling and an aethsetic perpective.  Field and Stream Magazine recognized Chris as a finalist in the Heroes of Conservation 2007 Awards Gala for efforts to protect the Chattahoochee sport fishery.  He has guided drift boat trips under a National Park Service permit in the Chattahoochee National Recreation Area since 1994 and has maintained a commercial guide's license under the Kentucky's Department of Fish and Wildlife since 2000 leading Cumberland River tailwater float trip adventures.

Chris has a BA in History degree from Elon College, North Carolina; and, maintains CPR certification.  Whether you are a beginner, novice or expert, Chris wants to help you rejuvinate your soul on the water!

Kyle Burrell
was born and raised in the Chattooga River country of northeast Georgia  and has been seriously fly fishing, fly tying, and building custom fly rods since 1984. Kyle has an extensive resume when it comes to trout fishing. He has a Master's Degree in Forest Resources Management with a concentration in coldwater fisheries. He is an expert on trout behavior and trout stream ecosystems. His graduate thesis entitled "Seasonal Movement of Brown Trout in the Chattooga River Watershed" was published in Transactions of the American Fisheries Society in 2001. Kyle has been a U.S. Forest Service Fisheries Biologist in North Carolina and Georgia, and has worked as an Environmental Scientist in the Atlanta area.

Kyle now guides full-time and divides his time between River Through Atlanta in the spring and the fall, the Green River of Wyoming in the summer time for trophy sized wild trout.

Born in the early '60's, John Scalley received his BS degree from Berry College in 1986 majoring in Animal Science /Agricultural Business.  He started fishing the Chattahoochee River as a boy at age nine up-stream of Morgan Falls catching warm water species in the back waters, and trout in the main stem.

John loves both fresh and salt water fishing of all descriptions. His North American experience includes Alaska, Canada, and the Rockies from Montana to Colorado. Internationally, John has experience trout angling in Ireland and New Zealand. His salt water angling has taken him to Puerto Rico, Hawaii and Australia where he holds a single angler continental bill fishing record in Austrailian waters off the Great Barrier Reef for catching and releasing nine billfish in one day -- seven black marlin and two Pacific sailfish. John has been guiding friends and clients all his life.

Fishing Experience: Dave Johnson Grew up fishing the blue ribbon trout streams of the Catskill mountains in New York State, as well as the Great Lakes and their tributaries, for trout, steelhead and Salmon.  Saltwater flyfishing for Strippers and Bluefish in the Atlantic were also common pursuits. Started out fishing with my Brother and Father, as a young child in Ohio, in small ponds and impoundments for anything that would bite. Currently enjoy fishing time spent with my 3 boys, chasing trout, steelhead and salmon in the Great Lakes region, as well as Alaska, and fishing Georgia's many trout streams.  We also enjoy chasing Strippers in Lake Lanier.

Education: Graduated from Monroe-Woodbury High School in Central Valley N.Y. in 1980. Attended the University of Alabama, majoring in Business Management from 1980 through 1983.

Age: 42

Gordon Walker started hunting and fishing at an early age with his Dad in Michigan.  He carries on the tradition with his 2 daughters to this day.  He has fly fished for Salmon and Trout in Alaska, as well as trout fishing in Colorado, Wyoming, Idaho, and Montana.
Gordon has been fishing on the “Hooch” since 1981, and has an extensive knowledge of the river, it’s lore and history.  In addition to trout fishing, Gordon has taken many species of fresh water and salt water fish on a fly rod.  Some of these include Pike, Bass, Stripers, King Salmon, Silver Salmon, Grayling, Steelhead, Sharks, Blue fish, Spanish Mackrel, Cobia, Dolphin, Permit, and Bone fish.

Gordon also teaches Hunter education classes for the DNR and runs the Gwinnett County 4-H youth shooting Sports.

A native Southerner from Dunwoody, GA, Rob Smith fished and hunted the Chattahoochee watershed long before the National Park Service acquired the CRNRA in 1978. Rob graduated from Brevard College, Brevard, NC, in 1980 and worked as a game warden for DNR in the 80's.

You can find Rob managing the fly shop at The Fish Hawk Fly Shop in Dawsonville, GA when he is not guiding for trout on he 'Hooch. Rob also guides fly fishermen for Stripped Bass on Lake Lanier during Spring, Fall and Winter periods.

Scott Nelson was born in Colorado and learned how to fish at a young age taught by his father.  Scott grew up fishing for trophy native Brookies in beaver dammed creeks.  He also enjoyed fishing for wild rainbows and cut throats in high mountain streams and lakes.

After a friend introduced Scott to the Chattahoochee’s great trout fishery in Georgia, he made frequent morning and afternoon trips to the river to fish for the trophy Browns he had been told about.  While fishing the Chattahoochee river he understood how the traits of the southern trout he was now fishing for and the high altitude fish he had grown up fishing for in the west were very similar.  He began taking friends out and teaching them how to fly fish.

Scott Nelson is an avid outdoorsman, spending many of his days fishing and hunting at his hunting property near his home in Cumming, Georgia.  While he will fish for any species, Scott has grown a love for trout.
